Town Marshal Ferndale shield, sterling silver, hand engraved, hard fired black enamel, circa 1893.  Ferndale was incorporated as a Town in 1893.  The population listed in the census of 1900 was 846.  In 1907 the Town Marshal was I. B. Barnes.

City Marshal Eureka shield, sterling silver, hand engraved, hard fired black enamel lettering.  The first City Marshal for Eureka was appointed in 1858.  On June 9, 1887 Ordinance 110 specifically designated the City Marshal as the ex-officio police chief.  In 1895 the title “City Marshal” was eliminated and the position of “Chief of Police” was created.
