Merrill Culbertson was born on December 28, 1916, in Indiana, his father, Chelcie, was 26 and his mother, Pearl, was 24. He married Vivian Roena sheffield in San Bernardino, California. They had two children during their marriage. He died on June 4, 1995, in Big Pine, California, at the age of 78, and was buried in Lone Pine, California.

Humboldt County Fish and Game Warden shield, made of sterling silver with hard fired blue enamel lettering.  The enamel work is exceptional and the jeweler reinforced the back of the badge to insure the badge did not flex and pop out the enamel.
