Andrew Samuel Calkins of Yreka was elected sheriff in November, 1918 and held the office for 16 years, to 1934. One of the finest badges to be found anywhere, a very thick 14k gold badge with a diamond mounted on it.
This sterling silver, hand engraved badge was worn by Sheriff Charles B. Howard who held the office from 1902-1918. The abbreviation DEPT at the top of the badge stands for Department not Deputy.
