
Matthew T. Brennan - New York Police Captain of the Sixth Ward,1854 elected Police Justice for the 2nd District which composed the Fourth, Sixth and Fourtenth Wards. In 1863 he was elected Controller, in 1868 he was appointed a Police Commissioner. In November 1870 he was elected Sheriff and as such found it his duty expose the Tammany Ring and to arrest William M. (Boss)Tweed
and Henry W. Genot.
